Here’s a news story that’s got the ring of a particularly wild Mad Libs: Jeff Franklin, co-writer of 1987’s Summer School and the creator of both Full House and Fuller House, has stepped up to produce a new horror film by the name of Murder with the Stars, which will be directed by Weekend at Bernie’s star Jonathan Silverman. You read all of that correctly.
As revealed by Variety (and pointed out by our pals over at Bloody Disgusting):
โFull House and Fuller House creator Jeff Franklin is set to produce a new horror film, Murder with the Stars. Craig Shoemaker penned the screenplay and will serve as a producer, with Jonathan Silverman set to direct and act in the movie.”
Adds screenwriter Craig Shoemaker, a longtime standup comedian and motivational speaker:
โThis concept came to me several months ago, and I knew I was onto something unique and fun. Since then, the creative process has unfolded effortlessly with two old friends signing on, Jonathan Silverman and Jeff Franklin. Itโs a killer team. In the case of this horror film, pun intended.โ
Given the players involved here – Franklin, Silverman and Shoemaker, all of whom have comedy backgrounds – and that title (which evokes nothing so much as Dancing with the Stars), we’re assuming that Murder with the Stars will be a high concept horror-comedy, though of course that hasn’t been confirmed as of this writing. Indeed, very little else about Murder with the Stars was revealed in Variety’s announcement, including when it might go in front of cameras or who else might be starring in it.
We do know, however, who’ll be financing and producing:
โMurder with the Stars will be created in partnership with Jaclyn and Ike Suri of Pelican Point Media, a film finance and production company, that has produced horror and comedy films like the 2016 thriller Exposed, starring Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves. Silverman is repped by Authentic Talent and Brave Artists, and Shoemaker is repped by Innovative Artists.
We’re very curious to find out what Murder with the Stars is, and will be keeping our ear to the ground for further updates. Stay tuned for those folks, and – in the meantime – here’s a sideย note: Is this the first time Full House has been mentioned in FANGORIA? We’ll have to dig into the archives to know for sure, but it certainly seems likely!
