Netflix dropped the first full trailer for Bird Box Barcelona, the sequel to 2018’s Bird Box. That post-apocalyptic horror film (which revolved around a mother’s attempt to navigate her two small children to safety following a worldwide outbreak of suicides induced by barely-perceptible creatures who appear out of nowhere one day) held the record for the most-watched Netflix original for nearly four years, and now – some five years beyond its initial release – we’re finally getting a sequel.
Titled Bird Box Barcelona, the sequel takes the action overseas, where things in Spain turn out to be no better than they were for Sandra Bullock here in the States.
Let’s take a look…
Here’s an official plot description, via Netflix:
“From the producers of the global phenomenon, Bird Box, comes BIRD BOX BARCELONA, an expansion of the film that riveted audiences in 2018. After a mysterious force decimates the worldโs population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.”
Starring Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro with Lola Dueรฑas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jennerย andย Leonardo Sbaraglia, Bird Box Barcelona will hit Netflix on July 14th. Written and directed by Alex and David Pastor, it looks to offer up the same sorta scares we all enjoyed in the 2018 original … though we should probably mount a rewatch of that one before the sequel arrives. It’s been a looong time since we watched that one.
Stay tuned for more on Bird Box Barcelona as further updates roll in.
