Who ya gonna call? If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, you might want to make a call to your local comic book shop to secure a copy of Ghostbusters: Back in Town. The upcoming miniseries was recently announced by the folks at Dark Horse Comics and it sounds like might be essential reading for fans of the movies as the book will help bridge the gap between 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and next year’s sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Back in Town is a four-issue series that is set to debut in March. The series is written by David Booher (Canto, Killer Queens), with art by Blue Delliquanti (Adversary, Across a Field of Starlight), colors by Mildred Louis (Rick and Morty), and lettering by Jimmy Betancourt of Comicraft. The first issue’s cover will be illustrated by Kyle Lambert, with a variant cover by Steve Morris. The synopsis for the book reads as follows:
“A year and a half after the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Ghostbusters are officially back in business and headed to where it all began: New York City! Callie, Gary, Trevor, and Phoebe are moving into the Firehouse and ready to take on the Spengler family business…or are they? Ghostbusting on top of changing family dynamics has a way of going awry––and that’s exactly what one paranormal force is counting on.”
The book will, rather conveniently, hit shelves right around the time that Frozen Empire makes its way to theaters. We recently got our first good look at the film in the form of a teaser trailer, and it brings the action back to New York City. The book will trace the journey the gang takes back to NYC as they get the old firehouse in ghost-busting shape. Afterlife director and Frozen Empire writer/producer Jason Reitman had this to say about it:
“Our friends at Dark Horse have picked up the Spengler family and hand delivered them to Manhattan where they will begin their journey back into Ghostbusting! It has been a personal thrill to collaborate with this incredible group of artists and storytellers on new chapters in the proton jungle.”
Gil Kenan, who co-wrote Afterlife, is in the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel. The film will also see much of the core cast returning, including Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon, and Finn Wolfhard. New additions to the ensemble include Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.
