Ever wondered what it might look like if Godzilla duked it out with The Avengers? What if he bonded with the Venom symbiote? Well, we need no longer wonder as the folks at Marvel Comics have partnered with Toho for a series of covers dropping in September that have the King of the Monsters crossing paths with tons of characters from the Marvel universe. Whether you’re a fan of superheroes, giant monsters, or both, these are certainly worth a look.
Spectacular stuff. No notes from me here. That Avengers #18 cover with the clear Shin Godzilla homage is particularly fantastic, if I do say so myself. It’s also pretty cool to imagine Hulk trying to fight the giant kaiju. That’s the beauty of comic books. We’ve got a full gallery of the covers below that you can check out. This calls to mind last year’s Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong miniseries from DC Comics. These are just covers for now but who knows? Maybe we’ll get some sort of Godzilla vs. The Avengers crossover in the future. A man can dream.
Marvel Comics actually has a surprisingly long history with the Godzilla franchise. The publisher first began publishing Godzilla comics in the ‘70s, with a Godzilla #1 Facsimile Edition recently hitting shelves. The publisher also recently announced a Godzilla: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus, which will collect Doug Moench and Herb Trimpe’s entire 24-issue run in color for the first time. That is due to hit shelves in October, just as these variant covers finish out their run. Here is the full publication schedule for all 21 of the Godzilla variant covers coming our way.

Overall, it’s been a ridiculously good time to be a Godzilla fan. We had Godzilla Minus One last year, which surprised us all as one of the greatest films in the history of the franchise. We also had Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+, which is getting another season and some spin-offs. Plus, there was the delightfully unhinged chaos of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Warner Bros. and Legendary are moving full speed ahead on a sequel, with Grant Sputore recently tapped to direct. Long live the king.
