If there’s a better way to bring this week in for a landing than a brand-new trailer for Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus One, the first Toho Godzilla movie since 2016’s Shin Godzilla (and the 30th Toho Godzilla movie overall), we’re unaware of it!
Opening December 1st, Godzilla Minus One looks to be a classic kaiju jam, with plenty of destruction, terror-stricken-yet-awe-inspired people staring off camera and into the sky, and one of the all-around sharpest executions of Big G ever committed to film.
Let’s take a look…
Listen, if you didn’t get chills at some point during this trailer, Godzilla Minus One may not be for you. For the rest of us, however, Yamazaki’s film looks to be just what the doctor ordered. Early word on the film is strong, too, with Polygon calling Toho’s latest “the throwback Godzilla fans have been waiting for.”
Here’s an official (yet very non-descriptive) plot synopsis:
โIn postwar Japan, a new terror rises; Godzilla. Will the devastated people be able to survive โฆ let alone fight back?โ
As mentioned earlier, Godzilla Minus One will hit US theaters on December 1st, which is just around the corner! We’re very excited to sit down with a big bucket of popcorn and get a look at what Yamazaki and company have come up with this time around. Stay tuned for more on Godzilla Minus One as further updates become available, kaiju fans.
