What’s up next for multi-Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro? A live-action adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for Netflix, one which we can only assume will have that singular GDT magic threaded throughout its familiar story beats. Just imagine what Guillermo del Toro’s Frankstein’s monster is gonna look like. You wanna see that, right? Well, so do we.
Y’know what else we’d like to see? Signed contracts for the three stars who are, according to Deadline, currently circling the project. First up is Pearl and Infinity Pool star Mia Goth, who’s quickly established herself as modern horror’s current scream queen. There’s no official word on who Goth would be playing here, but we agree with Deadline’s assumption that she’d be the love interest to Dr. Frankenstein.
Up next are former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield and the great Oscar Isaac. It’s anyone’s guess here as to which roles del Toro’s eyeballing these gentlemen for, but with a gun to our heads we’ll guess that Garfield would be taking on the role of the good doctor while Isaac would play the lightning-charged monster. That is, to be very clear, just a guess (really, it could work the other way ’round, as well), but it’s a guess we’re willing to make.
Of course, it’s worth pointing out that each of these actors are only in talks for the time being. No contracts have been signed, and these kinda situations can be very tenuous. That said, we’d be over the moon to see each and every one of these people in a GDT movie, so we’re crossing our fingers that everything shakes out. Nothing further to report on the new Frankenstein at this time, but you can be certain that we’ll be monitoring its progress closely, and will be back with updates just as soon as they arrive. Stay tuned!
