Fans of filmmaker/comedian Andrew Bowser’s Onyx character (a painfully high-strung, Dark Arts-obsessed nerd who’s been seen in a variety of online videos which have, over the years, pulled in 300M sets of eyeballs) are in for a treat later this year when Bowser’s Onyx The Fortuitous and The Talisman of Souls lands in theaters!

This horror-comedy – written, crowdfunded, directed by and starring Bowser in the lead role – debuted at the Sundance Film Festival back in January, and now Cinedigm has snatched up the North American rights to the film, with an eye towards dropping it in theaters this fall. Perhaps it’ll be a Halloween release?

The news comes to us from Variety, who have Cinedigm managing director Brad Miska quoted as saying the following:

โ€œGet ready to be transported back in time with this hilarious throwback to โ€™80s horror that will have you laughing and screaming in equal measure. Itโ€™s Elvira: Mistress of the Dark meets Fright Night, Beetlejuice and even Ernest Scared Stupid with practical effects that will leave you speechless. If youโ€™re a fan of the viral sensation that is Onyx, you wonโ€™t want to miss this uproariously fun adventure on the big screen this fall.โ€

In Bowser’s film, the put-upon “amateur occultist” Onyx “receives an invitation to meet with his idol, Bartok the Great, to take part in a ritual to revive an ancient demon. Onyx makes friends with fellow disciples as things take a turn for the worst and they battle to keep their souls.” In addition to Bowser, the film also features performances from frequent horror co-stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton along with Ralph Ineson, Rivkah Reyes, TC Carson, Arden Myrin and Melanie Chandra.

Nothing further to report on Onyx The Fortuitous and The Talisman of Souls at this time, but we’ll keep you informed on any further updates regarding its release as they roll in. Stay tuned!
