What with everything else that’s been going on for the past two years, you’d be forgiven for maybe, kinda forgetting that Amazon’s been working on a Fallout TV series all this time.

Announced all the way back in July of 2020 and based on the iconic Bethesda video game series of the same name, Fallout takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where feral ghouls live in sewers, human beings have hidden themselves away in elaborate Vault colonies, and all manner of factions compete for control of what remains of the outside world (which, by the way, is dotted with mutated creatures and all manner of other dangers).

Yesterday, the Fallout franchise celebrated its 25th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, Amazon Studios released our very first (official) look at what showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have been up to.

Lets’s take a look…

Fallout-Series-Wide

What we’re seeing here, one presumes, is the arrival of an unknown character at Vault 33. In Fallout lore, each Vault has its own history, its own set of characters, and – generally speaking – its own private calamity that ultimately spells trouble for the people inside that Vault. Vault 33 is a new addition to the franchise (it remains unlisted on the Fallout Wiki’s list of known Vaults), and of course we have no idea who that is meeting its occupants, but it’s pretty cool to see how faithful this production appears to be to the aesthetic of Bethesda’s games.

As of this writing, we know that: Fallout‘s cast includes Walton Goggins (apparently playing a Ghoul!), Yellowjackets‘ Ella Purnell, and the great Kyle MacLachlan; its pilot is directed by Jonathan Nolan; and that it’ll premiere on Prime Video sometime next year. Aaaand … that’s about it! But given how much we love Fallout‘s unique blend of horror, humor, science fiction and Deathclaws, you can rest assured that we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for further updates as we work towards a premiere date. Stay tuned!
