Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, writers of A Quiet Place and directors of last year’s sci-fi thriller 65, are teaming up with genre titans A24 for Heretic, which has officially been dated for November 15, 2024.
Starring Hugh Grant, mostly recently seen in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Wonka, The Fabelmans’ Chloe East and Yellowjackets and The Boogeyman star Sophie Thatcher, Heretic‘s short but not-so-sweet plot synopsis reads as follows:
“Two missionaries become ensnared in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse after they knock on the wrong door.”
While casting confirmation hasn’t yet been confirmed, we’re pretty sure it’ll be Grant opening the door – and East and Thatcher soon regretting they knocked.
While it’s their first time working with A24, Beck and Woods have long dabbled in the horror arena, with the aforementioned A Quiet Place being one of their writing credits, as well as 2015 found footage thriller Nightlight and 2018’s Haunt. The pair also co-wrote the screenplay for Rob Savage’s Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman along with Mark Heyman.
Grant hasn’t been in all that much horror, although cult fans will of course know his turn as Lord James D’Ampton in Ken Russell’s The Lair of the White Worm.
In their report, Deadline also outline a few more upcoming exciting genre releases from A24, including Babygirl, an erotic thriller from Bodies Bodies Bodies director Halina Reijn (opening December 20), and The Front Room, a psychological horror from Max and Sam Eggers, aka the Eggers Brothers (yes, that Eggers family!) opening September 6.
