Believe it or not, this year marks the 20th anniversary of Rob Zombie’s very first feature film, House of 1000 Corpses. Zombie’s been a busy man over these past two decades, so much so that it’s almost easy to forget what a hard time he had getting Corpses into theaters back in 2003 (the “Release” section on the film’s Wikipedia page lays out the game of hot potato that occurred with this one when both Universal and MGM both back down from distributing it; eventually Lionsgate stepped up to the plate). Where would we even be, here in 2023, without Captain Spaulding, Baby, and Otis?

Well, in addition to a brand-new physical media release, House of 1000 Corpses is also getting a second run in theaters thanks to the folks at Fathom Events, who will put the film back on the big screen next month as part of their annual Fright Fest lineup. The news comes to us from Bloody Disgusting, who note that the screenings will take place “on Sunday, October 8 at 4pm and 7pm local time, and Wednesday, October 11 at 7pm local time.”

For those who have somehow remained oblivious to the adventures of Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby over the three films in which they have appeared, House of 1000 Corpses is something of a Texas Chain Saw Massacre riff. In the film, a quartet of youngsters runs afoul of a very fucked up family (and, perhaps, a character by the name of Dr. Satan) living in the titular corpse-house. It’s a completely different beast than either of the sequels that followed (The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell), one that leans a bit harder into the goofiness of Zombie’s sensibilities as an artist. If you’ve never seen it, catching it on the big screen is almost certainly the way to go.

Starring Sheri Moon Zombie, Rainn Wilson, Sid Haig, Walton Goggins, Bill Moseley, and Karen Black, the Fright Fest screenings of House of 1000 Corpses will screen alongside a brand-new featurette “created for Fathom by Rob Zombie, reflecting on this modern cult favorite.”
