The upcoming horror-mystery feature film House of Ka is inspired by Bram Stoker’s The Jewel of the Seven Stars, and we have your first look at the official trailer and stills. Webby-honored director/writer Josie Eli Herman (The Call of the Void) “thrusts audiences into a young woman’s increasingly twisted investigation into the supernatural.” Written by Webby-honored writer Michael Alan Herman (James Franco’s The Mad Whale) and Josie Eli Herman, drawing inspiration from Stoker’s gothic novel. The original source material, published in 1903, is a first-person narrative centering on a young man as he’s pulled into an archaeologist’s plot to revive an ancient Egyptian mummy. How closely will House of Ka follow the original storyline? That remains to be seen, but we are crossing our fingers for some mummy action!
Co-writer Michael Alan Herman calls House of Ka, “In many ways a love letter to those classic Victorian penny dreadful stories. We have loved the lush haunt of historical horror our entire lives and we can’t wait to share our interpretation of that eerie, cerebral horror in this film.” The film stars Allison Megroet, Jeffrey Shawn Miller, Yesmeen Mikhail and is produced and filmed independently by Acorn Arts & Entertainment, Lonely Spectre Productions, and Hippogryph Films.
Director and co-writer Josie Eli Herman adds, “There’s an extraordinary thing that happens when scrappy creatives join forces to tell a powerful story like House of Ka. So much innovation and love has gone into the making of this film, and we can’t wait to share the results of so much creative spirit.” Let’s take a look at the official House of Ka trailer.
For Executive Producer Brendan Haley, this project is a dream come true, “As a horror lover and filmmaker, it has been a dream (a macabre one at that) to adapt Bram Stoker’s writing into this supernatural mystery. In the true spirit of independent cinema, our team came ready, willing, and with boundless enthusiasm to craft something special, and I think we pulled that off.”
Produced by Lonely Spectre Productions, Acorn Arts & Entertainment, and Hippogryph Films, we can expect a fall 2023 release on the festival/indie circuit for House of Ka.
