Earlier this month, we learned that Caitlin Cronenberg’s darkly satirical Humane would be hitting theaters in April, before landing on Shudder later this year. Today, we’re getting our first look at the film via IFC Films’ just-released trailer, and – surprise, surprise – it looks like we have another awesome film to look forward to from a member of the Cronenberg family.
We’ll get to the trailer in just a second, but first, here’s an official synopsis:
โIn a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nationโs new euthanasia program. But when the fatherโs plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare and chaos erupts among his children.โ
Yes, Humane imagines a world where an ecological disaster has compelled the world’s governments to launch a euthanasia program, one wherein 20% of the world’s population must volunteer for death. An exceptionally intriguing premise! Now, let’s see what it looks like in action…
This looks right up our alley! A darkly satirical premise, a bickering family torn apart by in-fighting (by the way, casting Jay Baruchel as Peter Gallagher’s kid is just A+ casting), what appears to be a strong dose of violence … consider us sold, Caitlin Cronenberg and IFC Films.
In addition to Baruchel and Gallagher, Humane stars Emily Hampshire, Sebastian Chacon,ย Alanna Baleย andย Sirena Gulamgaus. As mentioned up top, it will hit theaters on April 26th before heading to Shudder sometime later this year. Stay tuned for further updates on Humane as they become available, folks!
