Metal, and all its various sub-genres (speed metal, death metal, black metal, what have you), has a longstanding association with the horror genre. Some of that can probably be ascribed to the numerous metal bands that have appeared on horror film soundtracks over the years, but the roots run deeper than that: every once in a while, you’ll get a horror movie that combines the two explicitly … which is precisely what director Patricio Vallardes has planned for us in the forthcoming Chilean horror film, Invoking Yell.
Here’s an official synopsis, via the press release we just recieved at FANGORIA HQ:
“Set in 1997 in the south of Chile, a trio of metalhead 20something girls venture into the woods to shoot a demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell, while also documenting the eerie and unsettling process of recording electronic voice phenomena in the woods for the final track.โ
Y’know what? Sounds interesting! Let’s take a look at that trailer…
Hey, this looks like it could be pretty fun! An all-female black metal band, an ominous forest, the suggestion that someone could begin rocking their ass off at any moment…yeah, we’ll check this out, though it might be a while before we get a chance to: the aforementioned press release mentions nothing about a distributor, but that Invoking Yell is on its way to “rock and shock” film festival audiences. Here’s hoping it gets picked up, as we’d love to give this one a whirl.
While you’re here, please enjoy the film’s first poster:
Nothing further to report on Invoking Yell at this time (side note, though: Invoking Yell is a great name for a black metal band), but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for future updates as they roll in. In the meantime, stay tuned and stay outta the goddamn woods.
