We’ve been closely following the progress of HBO Max’s (excuse me, that’s just “Max’s”) Welcome to Derry ever since the project was announced. And how could we not? It’s an IT prequel series from IT and IT: Chapter Two filmmakers Andrew and Barbara Muschietti and co-showrunners Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) and Brad Caleb Kane (Black Sails, Fringe), to be aired on a streaming network that tends to approach its genre series with legitimate care and attention and, more often than not, sizable budgets.
Last we heard, Welcome to Derry was announcing a number of its principle cast members, but today we’ve been given an update on when we’ll actually get to see it.

That’s right: Welcome to Derry will hit Max sometime next year, in 2024. When in 2024? That’s anyone’s guess. Depends on how long the show will be in production, how long it’ll be in post-production, where it might best fit among the rest of the shows premiering or returning on Max next year. Seems like the sorta thing you’d want to time for the beginning of next year’s “spooky season,” but surely they won’t make us wait that long, right? Right?!
As previously reported, Welcome to Derry will take place “in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of It: Part One, the 2017 film based on the Stephen King horror novel,” and will allegedly include the origin of Pennywise the Clown. Depending on who you ask, that origin story may or may not have originally been planned for incorporation in IT: Chapter Two, and we’re very eager to see how this show will approach that material.
