Today, the Netflix Gods have decided to smile favorably upon us by dropping our very first look at Joe Cornish’s forthcoming supernatural series, Lockwood & Co.

Cornish, as you surely know, is the filmmaker behind 2011’s outstanding Attack the Block (and its still-gestating sequel), and here he’s adapting the Jonathan Stroud novel series of the same name. Netflix describes the series thusly:

“A girl with extraordinary psychic abilities joins two gifted teen boys at a small ghost-hunting agency to fight the many deadly spirits haunting London.”

Very well. Let’s see what it looks like in action!

Well, Cornish (who also directed the recent and undervalued The Kid Who Would Be King) certainly seems to be having a ball here, apparently delivering serving up material which has, over time, sort of become his sweet spot: kinda fun, kinda scary, with kids battling foes that pose a legitimate danger to them!

Lockwood & Co. (starring Ruby Stokes, Morven Christie, Luke Treadaway, and Ben Crompton) hits Netflix early next year, on January 27th. Given how much we love everything else Cornish has been involved in over the years, we’ll certainly be tuning in when it lands. Stay tuned for more on this one as further updates become available!
