Good news for Joe Lynch fans, H.P. Lovecraft nerds, and anyone within driving distance of NYC: Suitable Flesh, Lynch’s feature-length adaptation of Lovecraft’s short story “The Thing on The Doorstep,” will hold its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this June!

Lynch himself announced the news via Twitter, just this morning:

According to Lynch, Suitable Flesh will update some of Lovecraft’s, shall we say, dated attitudes – in addition to bringing a modern, funny, sexy sensibility to the proceedings. Says Lynch:

โ€œWhen I read Dennis Paoliโ€™s adaptation of the story, I felt like there was a fantastic opportunity to update and subvert Lovecraftโ€™s often old-fashioned sensibilities in a way that felt modern, relevant and even dangerous, with a pinch of 90โ€™s neo-noir and a dash of eroticism to spice up the stew. Working with Amp and such a fantastic cast โ€“ including Heather, Judah, Barbara, Bruce and Johnathon โ€“ weโ€™re so excited that this sexy, funny, scary film isnโ€™t just a modernized love letter to Lovecraft, but the kind of provocatively entertaining โ€œsin-emaโ€ I believe audiences are salivating for!โ€

That Paoli wrote this film’s screenplay should be notable to Lovecraft fans: he was also the screenwriter behind the one-two punch of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator and From Beyond, both of which starred Suitable Flesh‘s Barbara Crampton. In addition to that, Lynch’s film is executive produced by Brian Yuzna, who also EP’d Re-Animator. All of this means that Suitable Flesh is something of a Lovecraft reunion. That’s pretty cool!

NOTE: That we’re also getting Heather Graham, Bruce Davison, Judah Lewis, Johnathon Schaech and Bruce Davison in this bad boy almost (okay, definitely) feels like we’re being spoiled.

So, what’s Suitable Flesh about? Take it away, official plot synopsis:

“After murdering her young patient, a once-esteemed psychiatrist helplessly watches her life spiral into a nightmarish maelstrom of supernatural hysteria and gruesome deaths, all linked to a seemingly unstoppable ancient curse.โ€

The Tribeca Film Festival will run from June 7th through the 18th, with Lynch’s film screening as part of the fest’s “Escape From Tribeca” lineup. Anyone wishing to attend can head on over to the Tribeca Film Festival’s official website to learn more, snag a badge, and so on. Stay tuned for more on Suitable Flesh as further updates become available! We’re very curious to learn more about this one…
