Behind the scenes of JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION (2022)

This week provided us with a brand new preview of this summer’s Jurassic World Dominion in the form of a behind-the-scenes featurette, one that comes with a great deal of footage and juicy little nuggets of information. Perhaps most importantly for readers of this publication, director Colin Trevorrow heavily leans into the idea that this entry in the franchise will bring the horror vibes. Let’s have a look.

There is quite a bit to go over here. We get a lot of talking heads moments from the cast with little bits of insight. Mixed in with all of this are some new bits of footage and dialogue. For one, we get an exchange between Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm that helps signal how the casts from the past and present will unite. Another interesting moment comes from BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu, who talks about needing to “fix” a mistake. This is pretty interesting as he’s one of the people chiefly responsible for making dinosaurs exist again. Trevorrow, meanwhile, says something that could be pretty exciting for horror fans who also happen to be Jurassic Park fans.

“It’s been a great privilege to be a custodian of something like this. Our legacy characters, our Jurassic World characters, are back… and most importantly, go on a true, honest to God, scary as hell adventure.”

The vast majority of this franchise has been more action/adventure (and sci-fi, of course) with choice bits of horror. Though if we are to take Trevorrow at his word here, Dominion will be pretty damn scary. As far as new cast members go, the film will introduce us to the likes of DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It), Emmy nominee Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), Dichen Lachman (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Scott Haze (Minari) and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). Though Scott is actually playing the role of Lewis Dodgson from the original film, who was seen briefly paying off Dennis Nedry to steal the dinosaur embryos from InGen.

Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay alongside franchise newcomer Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim: Uprising), with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing. Steven Spielberg, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Trevorrow serve as executive producers.

From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
