An unlikely matchup of powerful titans is coming this fall. Announced in a press release as San Diego Comic-Con gets underway, Legendary and DC have partnered for Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong. Yep, you read that right! DCโ€™s biggest superheroes will clash with the kings of monsters in October in a seven-issue series.

The series hails from writer Brian Buccellato (Detective Comics), artist Christian Duce (Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point), and colorist Luis Guerrero. The companies also released a fair amount of preview art, which weโ€™ve included for you to check out below. The first issue will feature a main cover by Drew Johnson and variant covers by Jim Lee and Scott Williams; Rafael Albuquerque; Francesco Mattina; and Dan Mora and Alan Quah. As for the story at hand? The synopsis reads as follows:

โ€œWhat starts as a routine clash between the Justice League and the Legion of Doom takes a dangerous turn when the wall between worlds is breachedโ€ฆwith Godzilla, Kong, and the Monsterverse emerging on DCโ€™s Earth! What ensues will be a brawl of unprecedented scale and destruction!โ€

For the monster fans out there, the first issue will also have a Godzilla โ€œRoar Sound FXโ€ gatefold variant cover and a Kong โ€œRoar Sound FXโ€ gatefold variant cover. Theyโ€™re both by Christian Duce and will hit shelves a bit later on November 14, going for $14.99 each. Sound chips in the covers will have both Godzilla and Kong deliver battle roars when the gatefold is opened. An epic cover to match the epic nature of the crossover. DC President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee had this to say in a statement:

โ€œAs a comics fanโ€”thereโ€™s nothing more fun and exciting than exploring those amazing โ€˜What Ifโ€™ situations that come up when fandoms cross streams! In this case, itโ€™s a matchup of the worldโ€™s greatest Super Heroes in the Justice League who take on not only the King of the Monstersโ€”Godzillaโ€”but the mighty Kong himself! Itโ€™s a crossover no-holds-barred battle, decades in the making, and no bona fide comics fan will want to miss it!โ€

Buccellato had this to add:

โ€œIโ€™ve had the good fortune to write most of the legendary DC Super Heroes beforeโ€”from my time on The Flash, Detective Comics, and Injustice. This time I get to build something way larger-than-life using all the toys in two different sandboxes. Itโ€™s such a thrill to tear open both the DC Universe and Legendaryโ€™s Monsterverse for this dream project.โ€

This is just the latest development in Legendaryโ€™s Monsterverse, which appears to be growing by the minute. Weโ€™ve got the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel coming our way next year, and Apple TV+ has a TV show in the works set in the same universe as the films. Now, we can add a clash with Batman and Superman to the list.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 is set to hit shelves on October 17.
