During this year’s Gamescom event, the folks at Illfonic and Teravision revealed a new look at Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. We’ve had several trailers for the adaptation of the 1988 movie but this is, rather importantly, the first we’ve seen since it was revealed that Illfonic, the company behind Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, is taking over publishing duties from Good Shepherd Entertainment. If this latest footage is any indication, the game is in good hands.
The trailer offers a new look at the actual gameplay, with the Klowns going up against some unlucky humans. We get a better sense of how some of the weapons will work and some of the locations in which players will be competing. It is certainly irreverent, which gels with the cult classic film, but it’s also pretty damn bloody at times. It’s also easy to see why Illfonic was brought on board to publish the game, as this looks to be right in line with what they do so well. An official description of the game reads as follows:
โPlan your own invasion and harvest humans as the iconic Killer Klowns, or gather a team of citizens to survive the extraterrestrial threat! In this 3v7 asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, the human survivors will run, hide, and fight back against some very hungry Killer Klowns. Will you make it out alive?โ
Illfonic has done great work with these licensed asymmetrical horror games in the past. Theyโre also going to have some free time, as Friday the 13th: The Game is, sadly, going offline next year. But that just frees them up to help bring a new experience to players in the near future. IllFonic CEO and co-founder Charles Brungardt had this to say about it in a press release:
โWhen we first started talking to Good Shepherd Entertainment and Teravision Games about this possibility we were very excited about the IP. Then we got to know the team at Teravision and knew we were going to make this happen. Everyone at Good Shepherd has made the handoff process of this project enjoyable, as there is a lot of behind-the-scenes business in order to make something like this possible.โ
The game is due to arrive for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC. So players will be awash with options when the time comes. We previously got a trailer earlier this year that highlighted the playable characters. It seems like the game is coming along nicely and, with any luck, we wonโt have to wait too much longer to get our hands on it.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game does not have a release date, but stay tuned and weโll keep you posted on that front. Those who wish to sign up to be part of the open beta can do so by clicking here.
