Just a few days after the exciting announcement that filming is underway on Sony’s Ghostbusters: Firehouse (working title) comes some more exciting news: Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt have joined the cast, along with comedian James Acaster and The Babysitter’s Emily Alyn Lind.
The new additions will join some of the cast returning from 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon and possibly Ernie Hudson. Gil Kenanย (Monster House, Poltergeist) is directing, with Afterlife director Jason Reitman moving into the writer-producer role alongside co-scribe Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld.
Deadline reminds us that not too much is known yet about the sequel, but “sources say theย plan is to return to New York Cityย and the iconic firehouse made famous in the originalย Ghostbustersย films” – hence the working title.
Oswalt and Nanjiani previously worked together in 2021’s Eternals, and the pair’s casting – along with Acaster – harkens back to the original Ghostbusters cast of comedians Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis. And while we don’t know any details of who Nanjiani, Oswalt, Acaster or Lind are playing, we’re sure they’ll end up covered in ectoplasm at one point or another.
Ghostbusters: Firehouseย (which may well go by a different title later) is slated to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023.
