Colin and Cameron Cairnes’ Late Night with the Devil is one of the more unique horror films in recent memory. Anchored by one helluva performance from FANGORIA fave David Dastmalchian and all but guaranteed to activate the same parts of your brain that responded so strongly to Ghostwatch and the WNUF Halloween Special, it’s quite the piece of work.
Here’s an official plot synopsis, for anyone who’s still unaware:
“In 1977 a live television broadcast goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation’s living rooms.”
Hm. Well, that might seem like an unusually succinct plot synopsis, but it’s probably for the better; trust us when you say that the various twists and turns that Late Night with the Devil takes over the course of its 86-minute runtime are really probably better left for you to discover upon first viewing.
Speaking of which: Late Night with the Devil has earned over $10M at the worldwide box office since its release, but perhaps you weren’t one of those ticket buyers. Perhaps you’ve been waiting to catch the film at home (to maximize that “late night TV show” feel), or couldn’t make it to a theater. For those people, help is on the way: Late Night with the Devil hits Shudder this Friday, at which point all of you will have a chance to catch up with it.
Of course, you’ll also have to have a Shudder subscription to watch it, but surely you’ve got a Shudder subscription by now? If not, never been a better time, folks.
