Life has found a way to bring the Jurassic Park franchise back to life, in LEGO form this time! Though few details are available as of this writing, the folks at Peacock have revealed that a brand new LEGO special based on Steven Spielbergโ€™s classic 1993 blockbuster is headed to the streaming service. All we really have to go on is a teaser poster, which pretty faithfully recreates the original poster for the film, albeit with some LEGO flare. Check it out.

There is a surprising amount to dissect in looking at this poster. The biggest clue we have as to what this is going to be, exactly, is the tagline featured at the top which reads โ€œThe UNOFFICIAL Retelling.โ€ The fact that unofficial is bolded is quite telling. Thereโ€™s also a play on a famous quote from the movie, with Ian Malcolm saying, โ€œThatโ€™s one big pile of bricks,โ€ rather than โ€œone big pile of shit.โ€ Our best guess at this point is that weโ€™re going to get a retelling of the first movie with a bit of a comedic bend, using LEGOs as the vehicle to do so. Perhaps not unlike what Family Guy did with the Star Wars movies several years back.

This certainly wonโ€™t be the first project within the franchise utilizing the popular toys as a vehicle for storytelling. There was the 2015 LEGO Jurassic World video game that was released as a tie-in for the film that helped to relaunch the series, or bring it back from the brink of extinction, if you will. Then we had the 2019 animated series LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar, which was squarely aimed at younger audiences. One hopes this will be more in line with The LEGO Movie where it can play well for kids, but works for adults as well. Time will tell.

Whatever the case, it only makes sense for Universal to do something like this. They need to attract subscribers to Peacock, and weโ€™re talking about a movie franchise that has earned more than $6 billion at the box office over the last 30 years. Last yearโ€™s Jurassic World Dominion became one of very few movies since the pandemic began to gross at least $1 billion worldwide (and it also graced the cover of this very magazine). In short, until the studio decides what to do next in terms of the movies, this feels like a logical step for them to take. If it goes well, theyโ€™ve got five more movies to potentially tackle.

The LEGO Jurassic Park special doesnโ€™t have a release date yet but stay tuned as more information will surely be coming our way soon.
