The best marketing campaign horror has seen in years wraps up today, with NEON’s final Longlegs trailer dropping today ahead of the serial killer horror’s July 12 theatrical release.
If you’ve been following our Longlegs coverage then you’ll be aware by now that the film, written and directed by The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins, follows Maika Monroe as FBI Agent Lee Harker, who finds herself tasked with tracking down Nicolas Cage’s serial killer:
“FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”
Starring alongside Monroe and Cage are Alicia Witt (The Walking Dead) and Blair Underwood (American Crime Story).
Trailers we’ve seen so far have teased us with cryptic cyphers, demonic-looking dolls, an all-timer creepy Cage voice and what looks to be heaps of religious trauma.
The latest trailer is much of the same, plus boasting a 100% fresh Rotten Tomatoes score. Having read some of the early reactions, we can’t say we’re at all surprised by that.
We also get maybe our clearest blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at Cage as the eponymous killer Cage, plus a few distinctly The Silence of the Lambs-inspired shots of Monroe looking very, very disturbed. By what? You’ll have to get yourself to the theater on July 12 to find out.
Don’t forget FANGORIA subscribers, you have a little Longlegs treat headed your way very soon… (might wanna open this one in private, folks!)
