According to Deadline, Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049, Station Eleven) has joined James McAvoy in the Blumhouse remake of last year’s Speak No Evil, a jet-black and highly disturbing Danish horror film directed by Christian Tafdrup. James Watkins will direct the remake for Blumhouse.

In Speak No Evil, a Danish couple are cross paths with a Dutch family, who extend an invitation to their country house for a weekend get-together. Once they’re all under the same roof, things become somewhat sinister … before ultimately arriving at one the the bleakest, most terrifying horror ends in recent memory.

Anyway, we like Mackenzie Davis around these parts and are excited to hear she’s joining Watkins’ film, which he will also write. Watkins will be adapting Christian and Mads Tafdrup’s original Speak No Evil screenplay here, which hopefully means that the film will retain the original’s absolutely nightmarish ending. Hard to imagine a wide-release American movie going that far, but for now we remain hopeful!

Nothing further to report on Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil remake at this time, but we’re deeply curious to learn more about this one, and will keep you abreast of any further updates as they roll in. Stay tuned for those, and do check out Tafdrup’s Speak No Evil while you’re waiting. It’s great! Just … y’know, maybe don’t watch it right before bed.
