Hot on the heels of our exclusive interview with Crystal Lake showrunner Bryan Fuller comes … another post about another Bryan Fuller project! Did not realize it was gonna be Bryan Fuller Day when I clocked in this morning; if I had, I might’ve worn something a little nicer. Anyway…

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fuller is reuniting with Hannibal leading man Mads Mikkelsen for a brand-new “family horror” movie by the name of Dust Bunny. The film, which will be co-produced by the good folks at Entertainment One and Thunder Road, will tell the story of “an eight-year-old girl who enlists the help of her intriguing neighbor to kill the monster under her bed that she believes ate her family.”

Says Thunder Road’s Erica Lee:

โ€œWe have been huge fans of Bryanโ€™s for years. Dust Bunny is incredibly inventive and unlike anything in the marketplace and we are thrilled to help bring his first feature to life.โ€

Adds Kristen Figeroid, managing director and executive vice president of Sierra/Affinity (the company taking Dust Bunny to this year’s American Film Market):

โ€œMads brings such a unique quality to every character he brings to life and his role in Dust Bunny will be no exception. Weโ€™re excited to bring a throwback to the family horror films of the 80s, a beloved genre for many, to this yearโ€™s market at AFM.โ€

Pitching this as a throwback to the family horror films of the ’80s is very intriguing. One can’t help but think of Gremlins, Beetlejuice, or The Monster Squad. Those were the horror movies most ’80s kids were able to talk their parents into taking them to see, and they don’t make too many of those anymore (the recent Hocus Pocus 2 being an obvious exception). That alone is exciting, but then we’re layering a quasi-Hannibal reunion over the entire thing? This is very good news, indeed.

Nothing further to report on Dust Bunny at this time, but the film does start shooting early next year, so we’re expecting further casting announcements to be along sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for those, and any further updates that might pop up on our radar, as they roll in.
