Netflix’s cancellation of French horror series Marianne was one of the more upsetting of the streamer’s many cullings, so we’re very happy to hear that creator Samuel Bodin is back to terrify us, this time in film form with his debut Cobweb.
Starring Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield, Castle Rock), Antony Starr (The Boys), Cleopatra Coleman (Infinity Pool) and Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon), Cobweb follows:
Eight-year-old Peter (Norman) is plagued by a mysterious, constant tap, tap from inside his bedroom wall โ a tapping that his parents insist is all in his imagination. As Peterโs fear intensifies, he believes that his parents (Caplan and Starr) could be hiding a terrible, dangerous secret and questions their trust.ย And for a child, what could be more frightening than that?
Cobweb was written by Chris Thomas Devlin (2022’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and produced by Roy Lee, Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen, James Weaver, with Andrew Childs and Josh Fagen executive producing.
At just 14, Woody Norman already has some impressive genre credits under his belt, including the 2019 BBC miniseries The War of the Worlds and a role in Andrรฉ รvredal’s upcoming Dracula horror The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Our first look image from Lionsgate (seen above) shows the young actor as Peter listening intently to that ominous tap-tap-tapping from inside the wall, and while the image doesn’t reveal anything particularly scary, we have absolute faith that Bodin is more than capable of scaring us witless after that scene from Marianne.
Cobweb releases exclusively in theaters on July 21 from Lionsgate, and we will continue to bring you updates as and when we get them!
