You, there! Do you like summer camp horror? Are you a fan of seeing children menaced by a supernatural or mysterious threat? Are you a fan of the 1996 film The Dentist, starring Corbin Bernsen?
Well, today’s your lucky day. According to a new report over at Deadline, Bernsen has signed onto the cast of Daniel DelPurgatorioโs sci-fi horror mystery, Marshmallow, which is headed into production in just a few weeks.
What’s Marshmallow about? Here’s what Deadline’s saying:
“The indie written by Andy Greskoviak (Black Friday) is set at a secluded summer camp, where Morgan, a timid and introverted 12-year-old, is thrust into a waking nightmare when a once-fabled campfire tale becomes real. As a mysterious figure descends upon the camp, Morgan and his newfound friends must embark on a treacherous journey and uncover a sinister reality buried beneath the surface. Little do they know that the truth harbors a secret that will test their resilience and unravel the very fabric of their reality.”
Hmm. Let’s see: a mysterious figure, a sinister reality, the fabric of reality itself unraveling … we’re not sure what sort of threat these campers are gonna be up against in Marshmallow, but it sounds formidable. Were this purely a horror mystery, we’d guess that this plucky band of victi– er, kids might be going up against a slasher. Maybe an insane former counselor or something. But the “sci-fi” angle has us wondering if these kids don’t stumble upon something extraterrestrial. That’s pure speculation, of course. Could also be a giant, killer robot or something. We’ll have to wait and see!
In addition to Bernsen, DelPurgatorio’s film will also star Kue Lawrence (Beautiful Boy), Kai Cech (Dear Santa) and Max Malas (New Amsterdam). We’ll be curious to see how they fare against whatever’s lurking around that summer camp, and will bring you more details on this one just as soon as further updates roll in. Stay tuned for those, folks!
