Aubrey Plaza in Marvel's LEGION

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has, at long last, been dipping its toes into the horror world properly. Last month, we had Werewolf by Night, and we also have movies like the Blade reboot that signal more genre goods are coming from the House of Ideas. To that end, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a WandaVision spin-off, is coming together nicely, and a few key actors have been added to the cast, including none other than Aubrey Plaza.

As reported by Variety, the former Parks and Recreation star has signed on for a role in the show alongside series lead Kathryn Hahn, who will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. There is no word yet on who Plaza will be playing, but some rumors are swirling that she could play a villain of sorts. If we get Plaza as a witch in the MCU, it’s a win no matter what, right?

But that’s not all! Deadline also mentions that Ali Ahn (Raising Dion) and Maria Dizzia (The Staircase) have joined the growing ensemble in unspecified roles. They join the previously announced Emma Caulfield (Fear the Walking Dead) and Joe Locke (Heartstopper). No word yet on who will be directing and/or writing the show, but with casting in full swing, we should be learning more on that front in the not-too-distant future.

The addition of Plaza is the big one here, no doubt about that. She has dabbled in genre before, having appeared in the Child’s Play remake, and is currently one of the leads on the FX animated series Little Demon. This also isn’t Plaza’s first go-around in a Marvel project, as she starred in Legion, which was one of the more genre-heavy Marvel things in recent years before Werewolf by Night came along. And, in fairness, director Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness didn’t skimp on the horror goods.

Plot details for this show are currently being kept tightly under wraps. Hahn’s character was a major breakout in the Emmy-nominated WandaVision, and Marvel Studios was quick to capitalize on that by announcing the spin-off. Originally, it was going to be titled House of Harkness, but that was changed somewhere along the line to make it a little more witchy. No objections around these parts.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to debut on Disney+ in 2023.
