It’s a little bit Severance meets a little bit Mayhem in this new music video from multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Amtrac. “Domino” is a collaboration with Future Islandsโ Samuel T Herring, accompanied by what they’ve described as “a ’90s-inspired eccentric video representing a true underdog story.” Amtrac wanted to pay tribute to the likes of Carpenter and Cronenberg, here’s what he had to say about it, โ’Domino’ is a window into my state of mind during a time of uncertainty. Working with Sam was a dream collaboration come true. The video pays homage to some of my favorite filmmakers, with hints of the sci-fi/horror realms created by John Carpenter and the bizarre futuristic narratives of David Cronenberg. We wrap at the end with an almost Tim & Eric off-kilter take on the office workplace.”
Outside of Carpenter and Cronenberg references, the video is also a nod to the aesthetic of ’90s electronic music videos, ร la Basement Jaxx, Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers, Squarepusher, and Prodigy with a dash of The Twilight Zone, intended to convey an eerie take on a work day in a corporate office. The ultimate message: take control of your life and find peace. Take a look below.
“Domino” director Cameron Veitch said, “For Domino, we wanted to have some fun creating a chase scene in one of the most unsettling and dystopian landscapesโฆ a corporate office. The concept came by dwelling on the idea of daily life in a 9-5 where instead of killing time, time kills you.โ You can listen to โDominoโ HERE and catch Amtrac at this yearโs III Points Festival in Miami on October 21st.
