Gerard Johnston’s M3GAN was one of 2023’s most entertaining surprises, a “killer doll” movie with a legitimately fresh coat of paint, a number of memorable kills, and an instantly-iconic killer (with some killer dance moves) as its villain. The film raked in over $180M at the worldwide box office, all but guaranteeing that we’d get a sequel, and sure enough the powers-at-be at Blumhouse announced one shortly after M3GAN‘s release.

That sequel, called M3GAN 2.0, has long been slated for release on January 17th, 2025. Well, quick update on that front: today Blumhouse announced that M3GAN 2.0 would be along a bit later than expected. Four months, to be precise, as the film will now arrive on May 16th, 2025.

An unfortunate turn of events, perhaps, for those of us who wish to see M3GAN back in action as soon as humanly possible, but with Akela Cooper returning to write the screenplay, Alison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles from the first film, and James Wan returning to produce, there’s little doubt in our minds that the extra wait will be worth it. Oh, we might grow increasingly impatient once we start seeing trailers for M3GAN 2.0, but for now, we can live with it.

As of this writing, very little is known about M3GAN 2.0. Beyond its returning cast and crew members, we have no idea what to expect from this sequel (particularly given the way M3GAN ended, which we won’t spoil here on the off-chance that you’ve not seen it yet). Stay tuned for further updates on this front, and indeed for all M3GAN 2.0-related updates, as they become available.
