When IFC Films and Shudder put their heads together, good movies tend to happen. The companies previously collaborated on 2022’s Watcher and this year’s Late Night with The Devil, and now they’re joining forces again for a new sci-fi horror movie by the name of Menace. Starring Isabel May and directed by Randall Okita, this one sounds like it’ll be right up our alley.
Take it away, press release!
“Directed by Randall Okita, whose previous feature See For Meย was also released by IFC Films, the film stars Isabel May as a research student who has a psychotic breakdown and is remanded to the custody of her aunt and uncle in a small town. When strange things start happening around her and people start disappearing, she isnโt sure what is real or what is her imagination.”
Says Emily Gotto, SVP of Acquisitions and Production for Shudder:
โWe are thrilled to reteam with the powerhouse producers at Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Spooky Pictures, marking our third collaboration and another opportunity to match the tremendous successes weโve had with Watcher and most recently Late Night with The Devil. Randall Okita is a prolific filmmaker and weโre excited to join him again by bringing his imaginative work to audiences worldwide.โ
Adds Ben Ross, Acting CEO of Image Nation Abu Dhabi (who are producing Okita’s film):
โAfter successful runs on both Watcher and Late Night with The Devil, we couldnโt be more excited to partner with IFC and Shudder for a third time on Menace. We appreciate the passion that Scott, Emily and the teams have brought to these projects and canโt wait to see the outcome of this latest collaboration.โ
And, finally, here’s some commentary from director Okita:
“I am thrilled to be working with IFC and Shudder to share MENACE with audiences around the world. They are the perfect partner for our sci-fi horror and I look forward to embarking on this journey with them for this fantastic project.โ
While Menace is being pitched as a “sci-fi horror” film, it’s worth noting that its synopsis doesn’t really reveal what sci-fi elements might be at play. We are, of course, very curious to see how this one shakes out, and will be keeping our ear to the ground for further updates on Menace in the months ahead. Stay tuned for those and, in the meantime, make sure you check out IFC Films and Shudder’s Watcher and Late Night with The Devil if you haven’t already!
