Here’s a fun story to kick your weekend off with: last night, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that director Ryan Coogler and his frequent leading man, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther), are teaming up for a “secret genre movie,” one that the dynamic duo are currently shopping around to various interested studios via a series of closed-door meetings in Hollywood.

How tight-lipped are they being about the project? They’re making executives and potential buyers visit them at the offices of the WME talent agency just to get a look at the script:

“The project is operating under such a veil of secrecy that little is known about it. In fact, executives and buyers were forced to make the pilgrimage to the Beverly Hills offices of WME, the agency that represents Coogler and Jordan, in order to take a gander on the script and get details. Those meetings took place last week.”

THR goes on to say that details are scant beyond the fact that the project is a “genre” film of some sort, though they do note (via two anonymous sources) that the film contains some sort of “period element.” This could mean a lot of different things, but according to The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider the film is, in fact, a vampire movie of some sort. Typically speaking, we wouldn’t bother reporting on non-official rumormongering like this, but Sneider’s track record on this front is nigh unimpeachable.

So, let’s proceed as though that’s the case: a period vampire movie, starring Michael B. Jordan, written and directed by Ryan Coogler. If that’s not something worth getting excited about, we don’t know what is. Why, that could mean everything from a gritty ’70s vampire flick to a Prohibition Era-set “vampires vs. bootleggers” movie. In all likelihood, it’ll be a while before we know the true shape of the thing, but until then, we’re happy to let our minds wander with the possibilities.

The meetings Coogler and Jordan took at WME last week will now lead to another series of meetings wherein interested buyers will hear more about Coogler’s vision for the project. Given the level of studio interest here, we’re guessing that we’ll hear more about Coogler and Jordan’s latest collaboration sooner rather than later. Do stay tuned for further updates on this mysterious new project as they roll in.
