When we heard that Legendary Television was bringing a Godzilla series to Apple TV+, we weren’t sure what to expect. Would Kaiju action designed for the small screen really work? What would the show even be about? Would the VFX work feel constrained, or hemmed in by a TV-sized budget?

Well, some months have passed, and while we don’t have entirely informed answers to all of these questions, it feels safe to say that, no, Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will not be dialing down the monstrous mayhem, and no, it will not be playing things cheap when it comes to the VFX.

Just take a look at this:

This is our best look yet at Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and what a goddamn view. Legendary Television has clearly spared no expense here, and it’s evident in everything from the casting (which includes the legendary Kurt Russell and returning Monsterverse player John Goodman) to the scope (which will unfold across multiple timelines; in one of them, Wyatt Russell will play the younger version of his father’s character) to the Kaiju action, which looks to be absolutely gigantic and razor-sharp. We’ll have to wait and see how it all fits together to know for sure, but for the time being? Monarch: Legacy of Monsters looks absolutely awesome, in every sense of the word.

Here’s an official plot synopsis:

“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their fatherโ€™s footsteps to uncover their familyโ€™s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

โ€œClues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played byย Kurt Russellย andย Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga โ€“ spanning three generations โ€“ reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.โ€

Hot damn! We cannot wait! So, when do we get to see it? The first two episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will hit Apple TV+ on November 17th, with the first season’s remaining eight episodes arriving weekly thereafter. Yes, from mid-November through mid-January, we’ve got plenty of Kaiju shenanigans to look forward to.

Stay tuned for further updates on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as they roll in.
