We are proud to bring your an exclusive announcement today from our friends at Image Comics and Skybound. Coming this summer from a group of A-list creatives is a brand new horror anthology miniseries, Skybound Presents Afterschool. The comic takes the familiar cautionary tales we’ve all learned in our youths and flips them on their (severed) heads.
Each standalone issue of Afterschool features a unique team of writers and artists coming from every corner of the industry. The first issue hails from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead of Spring, and The Endless fame, who also directed the forthcoming, much-acclaimed Something In the Dirt as well as Marvel’s upcoming Moon Knight series. Plus, they are on deck to direct Loki season 2. The duo collaborated with Greg Hinkle (The Rattler, Airboy) and Giovanna Niro (King of Spies, Batman: The World). Benson and Moorhead had this to say:
“As lifelong fans of bold anthology storytelling, and as two people who live on a diet of weird fiction, we couldn’t be more proud to be part of Afterschool.”
The debut issue follows Nora, whose anxiety prevented her from approaching high school with any degree of confidence. Until she adopts Janie, an emotional support dog with a winning smile and a killer secret. But just how far will Nora go to keep her new life? Hinkle had this to add:
“Drawing horror is always fun, but it’s a real treat when creators like Aaron and Justin bring such a fleshed-out idea to the table. This was a very, very fun book to get to draw, and with colors by Giovanna Niro, one that I’m very excited to show off.”
Other creative teams behind the other standalone issues of the miniseries include Kate Herron (Sex Education, Loki), Briony Redman (Pont Brec) and Leila Leiz (M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, Horde); as well as Jill Blotevogel (Scream: The TV Series) and Marley Zarcone (Shade, the Changing Girl; Effigy). Jon Moisan, Editor at Skybound Entertainment, added the following:
“As a horror fan, this series has been a dream come true to work on. Every creator featured across each issue is among the most exciting I’ve ever worked with and the scares they’ve dreamed up are beyond anything I’ve ever seen in a comic book. Trust me when I say that you DO NOT want to be sent to detention with any of the monsters featured within.”
Be on the lookout for Skybound Presents Afterschool #1 at comic book shops and on digital platforms on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
