If Netflix and Ryan Murphy have proven anything over the years, it’s that people love salacious TV shows about high-profile murders, terrifying serial killers, and garden variety weirdos pulling off unpleasant crimes.
Murphy’s two most recent projects, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (about, you guessed it, the serial killer of the same name) and The Watcher (a drama series heavily inspired by the real life “Watcher House” in New Jersey) have both been big hits for the streaming giant, and today we’re learning that both were big enough hits to warrant further seasons.
Reports Deadline:
“Ryan Murphy has another anthology after Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer. The streamer has also ordered a second season of his drama series The Watcher.
Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer โ Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.”
One presumes The Watcher‘s second season will continue the story being told in The Watcher S1, but what about those two further seasons of Monster? So far, there’s no word on which serial killers those seasons might focus on, though Netflix does say that both will โtell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society.” Hmmm, that could mean just about anything, couldn’t it? Might not even necessarily mean serial killers, which would definitely open the floor up to some fun suggestions.
Nothing further to report at this time, but we’re delighted to hear that The Watcher will continue and very curious to see where Monster takes us next. Stay tuned for further updates on both these returning series as they become available, and in the meantime: don’t go into any strangers’ apartments and certainly don’t answer any weird letters you get in the mail.
