We’ve been losing our minds with excitement ever since Remedy Entertainment made Alan Wake 2 officially official. We’ve kept up with each new image, teaser, trailer, and narrative reveal (this one has you playing as Wake and an FBI agent by the name of Saga Anderson), and today – during the jam-packed Summer Game Fest – Remedy unveiled several minutes’ of very spooky gameplay footage.
Let’s take a look!
So, what we’re seeing here is actress Melanie Liburd (who did the mo-cap and vocal acting for the character) as Agent Anderson, investigating a dilapidated location out in the woods. It doesn’t take long before a giant dude in a very alarming outfit – including an animal mask complete with a set of antlers, a long coat recalling Resident Evil 2‘s Mr. X, and one dangerous-looking axe – bursts onto the scene and goes toe-to-toe with our heroine. She wins in the end, but one gathers this is all tip o’ the iceberg stuff. We imagine Agent Anderson will end up dealing with a lot worse before Alan Wake 2 comes to a close.
As for the quality of the footage itself? Looks great to us! It definitely feels like Alan Wake, the presentation has clearly undergone a graphical update since we were last in Wake’s town of Bright Falls, and you could cut the tension in this sequence with, well, an axe! We remain very hyped to get our hands on Alan Wake 2 when it arrives on October 17th.
