Following yesterday’s face-huggingly good poster reveal, 20th Century Studios have dropped the full trailer for Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus – and once again, it looks like Álvarez has nailed it.

Starring Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, The Craft: Legacy) Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu, Alien: Romulus has been described as “an original standalone feature”, and is set between the first two Alien films.

A full plot synopsis, from a script co-written by Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues (Evil Dead), reads:

While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Original Alien director Ridley Scott is on board as producer of Alien: Romulus and has called the upcoming sci-fi horror “fucking great.”

Of course, anyone who has seen Álvarez’s Evil Dead from 2013 knows that this guy knows his way around a reimagining, so needless to say expectations for Alien: Romulus are through the roof. And if that wasn’t enough? Álvarez has described Romulus as “an amalgamation of Alien and Aliens on many levels.” Hell yeah.

Today’s new trailer teases some gory scares, epic explosions and – of course – a suitably sticky Xenomorph, particularly in what looks to be an homage to one of Alien 3‘s most infamous scenes.

Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16, 2024.
