The next game in the long-running Amnesia franchise, Amnesia: The Bunker, arrives later this month, and to better prepare gamers for all the shrieking, pants-wetting, and hyperventilating they’ll be doing when the game launches, Frictional Games has released 10 brand-spankin’-new minutes worth of gameplay footage.
Claustrophobes and anyone with a strong aversion to rats need not apply.
As you can see, the new Amnesia takes place in – you guessed it! – a bunker. Players take on the role of WWI soldier Henri Clement, who finds himself trapped in the titular location after being abandoned by his fellow soldiers. Your job as Henri is to figure your way out of the bunker, which’d be relatively easy were it not for the grotesque, terrifying creature that’s stalking you throughout the bunker’s various tight passageways and cramped rooms.
For the most part, this is par for the course for the Amnesia franchise: you’re alone, you’re trapped in a location, something’s stalking you. But this time around, Frictional’s promising some major changes to the series, and we’re very curious to see how those changes end up being deployed. The gun’s a nice touch, for instance, but, uh … it may do nothing more than annoy the creature that’s after you. So there’s that.
Amnesia: The Bunker will land on the Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (via Steam/the Epic Games Store) on May 23rd. You have that long to buy yourself some diapers.
