20th Century Studios have today released the first trailer and poster for Boston Strangler, an upcoming true crime thriller that follows the real life ’60s serial killer and the reporter who pursued his crimes at great personal risk. Matt Ruskin (Crown Heights) wrote and directed the film which stars Keira Knightley as aforementioned journalist Loretta McLaughlin.
Ridley Scott served as producer on the film, alongside Kevin J. Walsh (House of Gucci), Michael Pruss (American Woman), Josey McNamara (Promising Young Woman), and Tom Ackerley (I, Tonya).
According to the official press release,
The film follows Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole, yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era. Nevertheless, McLaughlin and Cole bravely pursue the story at great personal risk, putting their own lives on the line in their quest to uncover the truth.
Alongside Knightley, Boston Strangler also stars Carrie Coon (Fargo) as Jean Cole, Alessandro Nivola (Amsterdam), David Dastmalchian (Dune), Morgan Spector (Homeland), Bill Camp (Joker), and Chris Cooper (Adaptation). The film will premiere on Hulu on March 17.
And as if that wasn’t enough true crime to satiate even the most morbid of curiosities, to accompany Boston Strangler, ABC Audio have also released the trailer today for companion podcast Truth and Lies: The Boston Strangler.
The three-part narrative series premieres on Wednesday, March 1, and marks the first collaboration between ABC Audio and 20th Century Studios. Award-winning journalist and author Dick Lehr hosts the show, which draws from the ABC News archive and features new interviews with relatives of those involved in the case.
