This looks to be very much in line with classic horror comics of old, as well as imagery fans have come to expect from both the show and the original 1982 movie from George A. Romero and Stephen King. Jon Moisan, Editor at Skybound, had this to say about it:
“Creepshow has consistently been one of the best things in horror for the last 40 years, and for Skybound to be able to carry on such a rich horror tradition is an absolute thrill. We knew a franchise this prolific would require the best talent in the industry, so we assembled a collection of creators that will do the Creepshow name proud. The stories they have planned are going to scare the absolute hell out of people.”‘
So, who is bringing Creepshow to the page this time around? The talent lineup includes Chris Burnham (Die!Die!Die!), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), Steve Langford (Creepshow), Josh Malerman (Bird Box), David and Maria Lapham (Stray Bullets), Steve Foxe (Razorblades: The Horror Magazine), John McCrea (Hitman), and Kelley Jones (The Sandman). The publisher also promises that more creatives are to be announced at a later date. Greg Nicotero, director, writer, and executive producer of the show, had this to say:
“Growing up a fan of horror comics and Famous Monsters, I will never forget the thrill of seeing a new issue hit the standsโฆthumbing through the pages with the anticipation of diving into a dark, twisted and outrageous world filled with ghouls, zombies and the classic comeuppance. I’m very proud to see Creepshow find its rightful place on comic book shelves everywhere!”
Creepshow has found robust new life on Shudder ever since the franchise was revived as a series in September 2019. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, in addition to the animated and holiday specials that aired in 2020. The franchise had been dead since 2006’s Creepshow 3, which was not particularly well received. This comic further cements the brand’s enduring popularity in the modern horror landscape. Russell Binder, President of Striker Entertainment, added the following:
“Skybound is simply the best in class when it comes to marrying beloved content with established and burgeoning talent. Stan Spry, Greg, and all of the producers, including myself, are ecstatic to have Skybound come on board to provide another engaging experience to fans of the Creepshow series.”
Creepshow #1 is set to hit shelves on September 21.
