We’ve had high hopes for Prime Video’s Dead Ringers ever since we got wind of it back in August 2020 – and the official trailer released today proves we were right to get excited.

The limited series – which will be hittingย Prime Video on April 21 – stars Rachel Weisz and boasts an impressive directorial team of Martha Marcy May Marlene’s Sean Durkinย (who helmed the first two episodes),ย Karyn Kusamaย (Jenniferโ€™s Body, Girlfight),ย Karena Evansย (P-Valley, Snowfall), andย Lauren Wolksteinย (The Strange Ones).ย

Prime describes the upcoming show as:

A modern take on David Cronenbergโ€™s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers stars Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takesโ€”including pushing the boundaries of medical ethicsโ€”in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring womenโ€™s health care to the forefront.

Alongside Weisz and Weisz, Dead Ringers also starsย Britne Oldfordย (The Umbrella Academy),ย Poppy Liuย (Hacks, Better Call Saul),ย Michael Chernusย (Severance, Orange is the New Black),ย Jennifer Ehleย (Zero Dark Thirty, Saint Maud) andย Emily Meadeย (The Deuce, The Leftovers).

In a recent press panel, Emmy-nominated playwright Alice Birch, showrunner and writer on Dead Ringers, describes being drawn to the project and wanting to explore โ€œthe intensity of identical twins, the God-like power that comes with being a doctor, the signature body horror of Cronenberg and theย funย the Mantle twins seemed to have (always with a martini glass in hand).โ€ In the same panel, Weisz described the show as ‘Deliciously mischievous at times […] Emotional. Moving […] darkly, darkly humorous.’

Birch and Weisz serve as executive producers, along with * deep breath * Stacy Oโ€™Neil, Sue Naegle, Sean Durkin, Ali Krug for Annapurna Television, Erica Kay, Anne Carey, Polly Stokes, James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall for Morgan Creek.ย

Soundtracked by Soft Cell’s iconic ’80s banger Tainted Love, the new trailer gives us a glimpse into a world of sex, power, sordid medical experimentation and some of that dark humor that the iconic Ms Weisz was describing. Needless to say, it’s an absolute MUST see for us sickos.

All six episodes of Dead Ringers will premiere on April 21 exclusively on Prime Video. The doctors will see you now:
