July is another month with some of the best scary movies on Prime Video. Are we surprised? Not really. What are the new selections this month? Glad you asked.
The newest film in the Evil Dead franchise is one of those choices, so Prime Video is already off to a good start. The Kandarian demons finally make their way out of the forest and into a downtown area, setting the stage for all-new and bloody demon antics.
Another new film that should get your interest is Zelda Williams’s directorial debut Lisa Frankenstein. Why? Reanimated corpses and love, of course. With a misunderstood heroine who only wants to be loved by the corpse of her dreams, there’s definitely something in the movie that will entertain you for sure.

Event Horizon (1997) on July 1
Paul W.S. Anderson directedย Event Horizon, and the film is known for the gory footage that was cut from the original version of the film and has since been lost. Short clips from the footage which shows the gory deaths of the original crew of the Event Horizon are seen in the finished film
Horror film fans still mourn what they could have seen.
Laurence Fishburne, Kathleen Quinlan, Richard T. Jones, Joely Richardson, and Sam Neill star in the film, which definitely scores in the space creepiness sweepstakes.

Hannibal (2001) on July 1
Interest has been renewed in the Hannibal Lecter franchise on streaming services, and we think it's a good thing. It might have something to do with the upcoming release of Longlegs, which is another FBI procedural about a scary serial killer, but either way, it never hurts to be able to watch Hannibal Lecter.
Hannibalย is the sequel toย The Silence of the Lambs,ย based on Thomas Harris's novel. It was directed by Sir Ridley Scott and stars Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, Ray Liotta, Frankie R. Faison, and Giancarlo Giannini. Is it as great asย The Silence of the Lambs? Thatย is up to you to decide, but it is certainly entertaining and a lot more gross than anyone expected it to be.
Split (2016) on July 1
Split is a sequel to writer and director M. Night Shyamalan's filmย Unbreakable, but at the time of the film's release, this fact was left as a surprise for viewers to find out while watching it. It was never mentioned in marketing for the film.
Three young women are kidnapped by a strange man who seems to have several personalities. Can they escape before they meet up with the personality that means them harm? Only time will tell.ย James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Betty Buckley star in the film.

The Silence Of The Lambs (1991) on July 1
The legendary film that broke the mold for horror films and how they are perceived by audiences and Hollywood awards shows still packs a punch today, thirty-three years later. The five Academy Awards that the film won are definitely not the film's only achievements.
Jonathan Demme's masterpiece is perfect and stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, and Ted Levine. If you haven't watched it, now is the time to enjoy one of the finest horror films ever made.
The Turning (2020) on July 1
The Turningย is a present-day adaptation of Henry James' classic Gothic ghost story,ย The Turn of the Screw. It stars Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard, Brooklynn Prince, and Joely Richardson and was directed by Floria Sigismondi.
It was originally developed as a passion project for Steven Spielberg, although he did not end up directing it after he had issues with the script.
ย
The Wolfman (2010) on July 1
The Wolfmanย is a remake of the 1941 Universal monster movie written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven, 8mm) andย David Self (The Haunting). It hasย an amazing cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving.
In this version, an American man is bitten and subsequently cursed by a werewolf after he returns to his homeland. Benicio del Toro as a werewolf sounds pretty good to us.
Evil Dead Rise (2023) on July 2
Ah, Evil Dead Rise, written and directed by Irish director Lee Cronin, takes the Evil Dead franchise in a totally different and fresh direction, which is wonderfully perverse and frightening.ย
The film features amazing performances from the cast: Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher. After an opening set in the woods, it adds the difficulties of an urban landscape to the mix.
ย
Lisa Frankenstein (2024) on July 30
Lisa Frankenstein is a "coming-of-rage" love story about a teenager and her crush, who happens to be a corpse. After a set of horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a journey to find love, happinessโand a few missing body parts.
Directed by Zelda Williams in her feature film debut and written by Diablo Cody, the film is intended to exist as part of Jennifer's Body Universe. The film stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino.
