What surprises does Shudder have among the new Horror movies streaming this month? The answer is the streaming debut of a new Nicolas Cage horror movie, not that one, from earlier in 2024, and the feature film debut of Caitlin Cronenberg.

Of course, you will also be able to enjoy the next two episodes of The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs, which is always a cause for celebration. Savor these episodes while season six is bringing horror fans bi-weekly joy.

The other two streaming exclusives on Shudder in July are really good ones. Arcadian, starring Nicolas Cage, is the story of a family trying to survive a strange, new post-apocalyptic world. As a treat, you will also get bonus Nicolas Cage films to watch. Just wait until you get a gander at the monsters in this movie.

The second exclusive is one that we’ve been waiting for, namely Caitlin Cronenberg’s hilarious yet horrifying look at a new world after a global climate catastrophe. What happens when our government needs to reduce the population in any way it can? Humane is an outrageous yet entirely believable look at how a family suddenly forced to sacrifice one of their own reacts under pressure. Family matters go completely bonkers in this ominous horror dramedy.

Arcadian is a new post-apocalyptic horror film starring Nicolas Cage. It was released earlier this year and directed by Benjamin Brewer. The film makes its streaming debut on Shudder this month. The film also stars Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins, and Sadie Soverall.

In Arcadian, normal life on Earth was decimated. Paul and his two sons, Thomas and Joseph, have been living a half-life—tranquility by day and torment by night. Every night, after the sun sets, they face the unrelenting attacks of a mysterious and violent evil.

One day, when Thomas doesn't return home before sundown, Paul must leave the safety of their fortified farm to find him. A nightmarish battle ensues, forcing the family to execute a desperate plan to survive.

To celebrate the release of this new film, additional Nicolas Cage films, including Bangkok Dangerous, Sympathy for the Devil, A Score to Settle, the beloved cult hit Mandy, Prisoners of the Ghostland, and Color Out of Space, will also be available on the service in July.

  • Humane (2024) on June 26

Humane is the first feature directed by Caitlin Cronenberg, a photographer who also happens to be a member of the fabled Canadian Cronenberg film family. It does not disappoint the family name while taking a slightly different route to its terrors. It's great, so definitely check it out.

State-sponsored euthanasia during a climate catastrophe is the name of the game in this intense and darkly humorous satire that concentrates on the inner workings and conflicts of a famous family. Humane stars a fantastic cast, Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Sebastian Chacon, Alanna Bale, Sirena Gulamgaus, Uni Park, Peter Gallagher, and the simultaneously loveable and slightly sinister Enrico Colantoni.

The film takes place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his four grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare, and chaos erupts among his children.

Check out our interview with Humane director Caitlin Cronenberg and stars Jay Baruchel and Emily Hampshire.
