Quick, off the top of your head, what’s your favorite Stephen King film adaptation? Whether you’re an IT fanatic, a The Shining classicist or a staunch Children of the Corn defender, you’ll find something to love in Daphnรฉ Baiwir‘s new documentary King on Screen, which gets a fresh trailer today from Darkstar Pictures .
Darkstar have also announced that King on Screen will get a limited theatrical release date on August 11, with an On Demand and Blu-ray release to follow on September 8.
Here’s just a taster of what you can expect from the mega documentary:
1976, Brian de Palma directs Carrie, the first novel by Stephen King. Since then, more than 50 directors have adapted the master of horror’s books, in more than 80 films and series, making him the most adapted author alive in the world . What’s so fascinating about him that filmmakers cannot stop adapting his works? KING ON SCREEN reunites the filmmakers that have adapted Stephen King’s books for cinema and TV, including Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Walking Dead), Tom Holland (The Langoliers, Chucky), Mick Garris (The Stand, Sleepwalkers) and Taylor Hackford (Dolores Claiborne, Ray). It is a movie made for the fans and with the fans, led by an international ambition.
Mike Flanagan, Vincenzo Natali, Greg Nicotero, Mark L. Lester, Dee Wallace, Tim Curry and James Caan will also be sharing their thoughts (and hopefully some hilarious and spooky anecdotes) on the horror master.
King On Screen premiered last year at Fantastic Fest, where Fango’s own THE KINGCAST boys had the distinct honor of hosting the documentary, with co-host and King-expert Scott Wampler calling it “the sort of thing any King fan will go crazy for.”
Dark Star Pictures President, Michael Repsch also shared his excitement for the doc:
Daphnรฉ has done a spectacular job of showcasing the talented filmmakers who brought the work of Stephen King to life in moving images. As a lifelong King fan, I could not be more excited to bring this film to audiences across North America and have it as a part of the Dark Star family.
King on Screen is produced by Sebastien Cruz for Les Films de la Plage, Jean-Yves Roubin for Frakas Productions and Zoe Salmon for Mr Salmon Films, with the participation of OCS.
Make sure to check out King on Screen if you’re lucky enough to have it playing near you, and as if you needed more convincing, here’s that trailer!:
