As of this writing, we are just 11 days away from the arrival of Gerard Johnstone’s M3GAN. We’ve been covering this one for months, from the very first trailer to the TV spots to slapping M3GAN on the cover of the next issue of FANGORIA Magazine, and we could not be more excited to see the damn thing.
Today brings us an all-new featurette for Johnstone’s film, one which honestly doesn’t show or tell us much we weren’t already aware of, but does feature a little bit of input from Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and M3GAN producer James Wan. Let’s take a look…
For those of you who’ve been living under a rock for the past six months, here’s an official plot synopsis, should any of the above remain unclear:
“M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a childโs greatest companion and a parentโs greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Outโs Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.
When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemmaโs unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problemsโa decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
As we have repeatedly pointed out in our coverage, M3GAN was scripted by Malignant‘s Akela Cooper, based on a story cooked up by Cooper and Wan. As anyone who’s seen Malignant can tell you, that’s the kind of behind-the-camera creative pairing worth paying attention to, and we can’t wait to see what they’ve cooked up this time. Word on the street suggests that lightning may have struck the same spot for the second time!
Anyway, we’ll see it for ourselves when M3GAN hits theaters on January 6th. We’ve already got our tickets – do you?
