Night Swim is produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, reuniting for what is sure to be another horror hit, and based on a 2014 short film byย Rod Blackhurstย and McGuire. A full plot synopsis, via press release, reads as follows:
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscarยฎย nominee Kerry Condon,ย The Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amรฉlie Hoeferle, this fallโsย The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren,ย Fear the Walking Dead).ย Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new homeโs shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the homeโs past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.ย
In the featurette, Wyatt teases that “there’s something lurking”, while McGuire ominously promises that โour ambition was to ruin the swimming pool forever.โ And if this teaser is anything to go by, they’ve sure as hell succeeded!
