As you are all certainly aware by now, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Scream VI is right around the corner (it hits theaters on March 10th, but you’ve already got your tickets, don’t you?), and that means we’re entering the final phase of the Scream VI marketing campaign: featurettes.

Today brings us a new one that’s all about Ghostface. Specifically, Scream VI‘s Ghostface, which both the trailer and this featurette go way out of their way to hype up the ruthlessness of this iteration of the character (as if that wasn’t crystal clear the moment we saw Ghostface shoot a man in the face at point-blank range with a shotgun). Let’s take a look…

The amount of time this movie’s marketing campaign has spent hyping up the new Ghostface’s brutality is kinda interesting, no? No one was complaining about Ghostface going soft after the last Scream, so this isn’t a course correction of some sort. It really feels like Paramount’s hinting around something here (“There’s never been one like me!” Ghostface growls in the film’s first full-length trailer), and we’re really curious to find out if there’s more to this than … y’know, just hyping up a slasher icon.

Luckily, we won’t be waiting too much longer to find out. As mentioned up top, Scream VI hits theaters in just nine days, at which point we’ll get to see Ghostface slash his or her way through the Big Apple, visit a very impressive Ghostface trophy room, and find out once and for all what makes this version of Ghostface so special. Stay tuned for more on Scream VI as we draw ever closer to that March 10th release date!
