The hype is building for David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer, and ahead of the possession horror’s October 6 release date, our friends over atBloody Disgusting have premiered a brand new bunch of images to get us ready for a terrifying demonic double act.
The Exorcist: Believer marks the first in Green’s new trilogy for Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek, and stars Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, Ann Dowd and Olivia Marcum. The film also heralds the return of Ellen Burstyn, who is stepping back into her role as Chris Macneil from William Friedkin’s game-changing 1973 original, The Exorcist. A full plot synopsis reads as follows:
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Odom Jr.) has raised their daughter Angela (Jewett)ย on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Marcum) disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before:ย Chris MacNeil (Burstyn).
We’ve also already got a set date for the second film in the trilogy, The Exorcist: Deceiver, which will hit theaters on April 18, 2025. Plenty of time to get that in your diary, and to start speculating about what the third title might be (we’re still holding out for The Exorcist: Golden Retriever but that’s just us).
