For the past few months, the buzz has been building for Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman. A feature-length adaptation of the Stephen King short story of the same name written by A Quiet Place scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and M3GAN‘s Akela Cooper, word on the street suggests that The Boogeyman is gonna hit a big homerun when it hits theaters in June.
Today we’re getting a look at the film’s second trailer, and if it’s anything to go by, all that hype may be right on the money. Watch this and see if you don’t agree:
So, as previously noted, it’s clear that Beck, Woods and Cooper have drastically expanded the King short story on which The Boogeyman is based (That story, which premiered in the pages of Cavalier magazine before winding up in King’s 1978 Night Shift collection, runs just over 20 pages), and it appears Savage has taken that script and turned it into a set-piece-heavy spook-a-blast. Everything here looks solid, and we really can’t wait to see if the hype matches the final product.
Says Savage:
“The Boogeyman is a classic horror movie in the mold of Poltergeist that has scares and heart in equal measure. I vividly remember the terror I felt reading Kingโs short story as a kid, and itโs this feeling of childhood fear that I wanted to inspire in cinema audiences around the world. This film was made in collaboration with an incredibly talented team of creatives, and is anchored by wonderful, soulful performances from our incredible cast – I’m in awe of them, truly. Weโre incredibly proud of this movie and canโt wait to give you all a reason to fear the dark again on June 2nd.โ
The Boogeyman stars Yellowjackets MVP Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina and FANGORIA fave David Dastmalchian, and will open on June 2nd. Rest assured we will be keeping you informed with any updates that might roll in between now and its arrival in theaters. Stay tuned!
