Over the weekend, Netflix dropped a brand-new trailer for Tim Burton’s forthcoming Addams Family spin-off series, Wednesday, and at long last finally revealed who’ll be playing this show’s Uncle Fester: none other than former SNL and Portlandia star Fred Armisen. This reveal was certainly more appealing than the casting reveal some corners of the internet were expecting (ahem), and it looks like Armisen’s having a blast in the part!
Here’s the trailer, in case you missed it:
Y’know, each new trailer they release for Wednesday gets us a little more excited about the show. There are moments within this trailer that feel perfectly of a piece with Barry Sonnenfeld’s Addams Family duology, and it also feels like Burton’s more engaged by the material here than he has been in some time. Here’s hoping the final product turns out to deliver on what we’ve seen from the marketing department; if it sticks the landing, we might be in for a real treat.
For those just joining the conversation, here’s Wednesday‘s official plot synopsis:
From the imagination of Tim Burton, WEDNESDAY is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addamsโ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago โ all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore. Snap snap.
In addition to Armisen (and as you’ve surely heard by now), Wednesday also stars Luis Guzman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Christina Ricci, and – in the titular role – Jenna Ortega. It’ll hit Netflix on November 23rd (seems odd they wouldn’t be dropping this pre-Halloween … but then again, Netflix is already overflowing with new releases in October), and we’ll be there day one to check it out.
